Changes in Manual Lifting Policy

After a recent injured hand incident, and reviewing the evidence, both the Operations and Safety departments have determined that changes needed to be made to XPAT’s Manual Lifting Policy.

Effective Immediately, the changes are:

  • The policy now requires a two-man lift if manual lifting is required and object is over 49 lbs.
  • The policy now establishes a “put it down” Standard Operating Procedure when manually handing off objects is necessary.   1st employee will place object on level surface, remove hands, and 2nd employee picks up object. (Put it down and I’ll pick it up).

Employees are required to help prevent injuries by paying attention to the task at hand, using good body ergonomics, watching hand placement, and of course, wearing the proper PPE.  Employees are required to report any and all near-miss or incidents immediately to the Operations and HSE departments.

If you have any questions on this policy change, please contact HSE Field Coordinator, Paul Campos.

You can read the full policy in XPAT’s Full HSE Manual, which can be from this website.  Look under Manuals.  There is also a copy in the office.

Questions:

  1. Do I need help to lift something that weighs 55 lbs?  Yes or No?
  2. I can “toss” fittings to another employee so that the job can be done faster?  True or False?

By submitting this form, you agree to abide by the changes to the manual lift policy, immediately.
